What’s Cooking

“What’s cooking” is a film that illustrates how four families from different cultures celebrate thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is a holiday where families come together and give thanks for one another and other things they are grateful for. In the film you can see the traditional ways that thanksgiving is celebrated by each family , which is by the traditional dish of the turkey. Each family had made a turkey, no matter how it was made, each family still had one on their table.  In the film you can see how strongly each older family member cared for the traditional way of thanksgiving while the younger children weren’t really to fascinated with it. When grace was greeted by her daughter in law and was informed that Michael was not going to be able to make it for thanksgiving because he was caught up with school, she was so disappointed. "Como Agua Para Chocolate"

In the film “ Como agua para chocolate” food played a significant role when portraying each character and their national identities. In the film, as you can see, tita lives a very “strict” life. Having to follow their family rituals by caring for her mom until she passes, causes rita to have to stand by and watch her first love marry her sister. Pedro marrying tita’s sister did not stop their love from blossoming and throughout the film you’ll able to see how tita uses food to show her love for Pedro. Tita had prepared a meal, one of the dishes being quail with rose petals, which helps tita to signify and project her love for Pedro. The meal that she had prepared, was so powerful that the whole table was able to sense just how strong she had felt. Also it helped tita to reveal to Pedro how she physically yawned for him. Last but not least, you can also see that tita prepared the meal to show rebellious against her mom. Seeing how angry it made her mom gave tita some type...
